What inspired the story?
When it’s this time of the time, I usually have two things: watch Christmas movies and listening to Mariah Carey. It’s the moment of the year, I’ll be extra cosy (cause it’s so busy out there) and fill my heart with cheeky love story. And I really wanted a Christmas movie West Indies’ edition. When I watch movie or read, I like to create “a what if the characters were from Martinique” edition.
Did you include any island traditions in the story and what are they?
Food. I include the traditionnal food for Christmas. The day after Christmas, we eat “pain au beurre with traditionnal hot chocolate” and nobody has the same receipe. We are very serious about the family receipe. It was the first traditionnal dish I learn to cook.
Which came first? The characters or the plot?
For this story, the characters came first. I wanted to write about a successful but “non typical” kind of man and about a successful woman that won’t compromise her career for a man even if she loves him.
What are you working on next?
I’m working on a children book with traditionnal characters!!!

What are your favourite Christmas traditions?
My favorite Christmas tradition is “Chanté Nwèl”. I love the Christmas cantiques. It’s joyful and it touches the heart. It’s a reminder that life is a blessing.
What is your favourite/go to Christmas song?
I like “Dans le calme de la nuit“, “Michaud Veillait“. from the Chanté Nwèl and of course, “All I want for Christmas” by Mariah Carey.
